Beloretsk, the lost pearl of Russia
|
Beloretsk iron&steel works were founded in 1759 by merchants I.B. Tverdyshev and I.S. Myasnikov and belonged to the most powerful russian mills until the half of 20th century. Two blast furnaces and open-hearth shop were shutdown in 2002. Today, the grounds are owned by Mechel company who runs a wire-rolling mill here.
The majestic smelter relict consists of two blast furnaces under one cast house and has been modernized between 1920 - 1930 for the last time.
