Miniere di Montevecchio - Laveria Principe Tomaso

It used to be the main enrichment plant of the Montevecchio mining district (Lead, Zinc, Silver), and one of the largest in Sardinia and Italy too. Built in 1877 and largely renovated in the 1930s, it ceased activity in 1980, ten years before the end of mining industry in the region.
The whole site is slowly, very slowly, undergoing a renovation. At the moment, a few km of underground tunnels are open for visitors, as the older part of the site is too (shafts and engine rooms). The washery is intact and therefore represents a unique chance of understanding the whole process, if restored for the public. Here it is the lower flotation hall, today vs. 1962.
