Weaving Shed, Queen Street Mill

The shed currently houses only 308 looms compared with over 1000 when working. The Mill was owned by a cooperative which neant that it did not have capital to renew equipment, so the original looms from the 1890's remained in use, still with the steam-driven lineshafting, until production ceased in 1982. The mill was scheduled as a museum very soon afterwards.
Only a small number of looms are actually worked, but the belt drives are still connected and running throughout the shed.
Obtaining a good photograph with the loom demonstrator was difficult because I had to use the self-timer. This meant that I had no control at all over what position he would be in when the shutter actually opened. I needed a relatively long exposure to show that the equipment is actually in use.
Die Webehalle enthält heute 'nur' 308 Webestühle, statt die ehemalige rund 1000. Die Fabrik war von einer Genossenschaft betrieben, deshalb hatte nicht das Kapital um die Ausrüstung zu modernisieren. Deshalb blieben auf der Stelle die originale Maschine aus etwa 1890, samt dampfbetriebene Transmission, bis Betriebseinstellung in 1982. Die Fabrik würde schnell danach als Museum bezeichnet.Heute werden nur noch 3-4 Webestühle noch verwendet; die transmission samt Riemen wird ohnehin in der ganzen Halle betrieben.
Das fotografieren vom Weber war immerhin schwierig. Wegen Langzeitaufnahme musste ich den Selbstauslöser verwenden, wobei ich keine Ahnung hatte genau wo und wie er beim lösen stehen würde. Ich wollte immerhin die bewegung der Maschine deutlich zeigen.[i/]
