Lanifici Rivetti
Biella is one of the first italian industrial towns, grew during the industrial revolution. The industry was monosectorial: wool. Between 1830 and 1950 something like 200 factories were located in the town and outside, on the hills.
Rivetti family was one of the most important, they started in wool buisness in 1872. The picture shows one building (from 1918) of the Rivetti's "Emperor" at the gates of the city. This huge complex is located on the edge of the hill who accomodates Biella, and it is extended for more than a kilometer. There are factory buildings from 1900, 1920, 1940, 1950. Someones with sheds, some others divided in 4 to 6 floors. One of the most fascinating thing is that all the complex has got on one side a big street with main gates and offices, and on the opposite side there's a terrace (belvedere) with a spectacular view upon Biella suburbs and factories. Finally needs a mention also the railway, that runs under the complex which had got some special underground warehouses built in the 40s.
