Tianzhuang depot

The Doxford crane tanks may be a memory but there are still steam depots to be found in some odd corners of the world. This is an early morning view of the Tianzhuang depot of the Pingdingshan Coal Company on January 27th 2006. At each shift change the locomotives return to the depot for fire cleaning and watering before returning to their duties on the extensive network of lines serving numerous collieries. The people in front of the locomotives are sifting the freshly dropped ashes for unburned coal that they can sell in the city.
