This unusual chemical plant was built in 1950 in the heart of Lomellina, a famous rice-cultivation region in the south-west of Lombardia. It used rice hulls to extract a chemical compound, called Furfural, in a process where sulphuric acid was involved.
It was closed in the 80s because the soil was heavly polluted, and today is still standing completely intact in the middle of nowhere. Quite interesting plant, in my opinion.
