This bridge over the Kanaal naar Beverlo (1857) was the main entrance of the zinc industry Nyrstar in Balen (B). In 1889 started as the zinc and non-ferrous industry Vieille Montagne, later Union Minière Zinc Balen-Wezel. The water tower dates from 1930. In 2002 it is taken over by Umicore (Zinc Melting).
