Furnace Study

This drawing was made from a very old photograph of a pair of early blast furnaces that were once located at Port Talbot steelworks (South Wales). I used dense blacks whilst leaving the foreground of the image unfinished to indicate the removal of the furnaces from the site.
I retained as much of the architectural details as possible in order to contradict the lack of form within the blacks. My aim was to create a tension between structure/form on one side and silhouette/impermanence on the other.
