Limestone quarry
Detrital limestones of the miocene have been exploited for more than 2000 years in the south of France, under the name of " Pierre de Provence". In various shapes, they took part in the construction of innumerable monuments and urban or rural buildings. The photograph presents an example of quarry exploited about 1880 in the department of Drome.
The 6 m height face of the open stope show the traces of several slices of blocks cutting.
