This is not the historic boat lift that is usually advertised, but is just as much a historic site as it has been closed since December 2005. I visited it previously in August 2005 (and saw it working ;) ), and had no idea how soon it would go out of use.
This means that the traffic now all passes through the single-chamber deep lock, built in 1989. The reduction in traffic on the canal to and from Dortmund means that this is now adequate. At present around 20 craft per day use the lock.
